Zetta.net 3.0 uses WebDAV for efficiency

The importance of rapid and reliable internet-based communications was well recognized by the founders of Zetta.net. With experience going back to the days of Netscape, when bandwidth was infinitesimal when compared to that which we take advantage today, engineering an enterprise-class data protection would require the use of the best tools available. Since the cloud-based service would need to provide data protection for servers and clients, with many concurrent communications sessions across an enterprise, an intelligent protocol between customer computers and the Zetta.net cloud would need to be developed. Since enterprises use many operating systems, the selection of development platforms was a critical factor in development and continuing product support costs. Scalability of the cloud infrastructure was also a critical factor involving product design. Synchronization of data between the cloud and the customer’s computers had to be extremely fast, and rapid data availability after a disaster becomes an important business continuity component. All of these requirements dictated the decision by Zetta.net to use the Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) extension to the HTTP protocol.
